Cashmere wool is one of the most luxurious and most expensive natural textiles. Due to its quality and aesthetic features, it is also one of the most sought-after materials. Products made out of cashmere are soft and pleasant to wear as well as to the touch. Cashmere sweaters keep you warmer than sweaters made out of fleece. Cashmere perfectly maintains its shape, does not stretch or fade out, and when cared for properly, it looks like new even after years of use. Purchasing cashmere clothing is therefore a long-term investment.
How is cashmere obtained?
Cashmere is obtained by combing the undercoat of the cashmere goat. This exceptionally resilient breed lives on the plateaus of mountains in China and Mongolia. The undercoat of the cashmere goats is soft, thick, and perfectly protects against freezing temperatures, which often go below -40 °C. These unique climate conditions are also the reason for the unique features of the cashmere fibres. Raw cashmere is obtained by combing the undercoat in the spring and summer months. It then goes through a lengthy manual processing phase which produces the cashmere yarn and this is what sweaters and scarves are made out of. By the way, did you know that wool from three to five goats is used to make a standard-sized sweater?
How to choose cashmere clothing?
In addition to colour and size, pay special attention to the number of plies (layers) of cashmere yarn that the cashmere clothes are made out of. It is this parameter that will tell you in what weather conditions you will feel the most comfortable wearing the article of clothing. As a rule of thumb, more plies means warmer clothing. Two-ply cashmere sweaters are the most common, and they are also the biggest part of our supply. You can wear these sweaters, vests, and pullovers all year round and feel extremely comfortable. Our thickest sweaters, which are made out of 10 to 12 plies, are also very popular. They are designed to be worn in the coldest months of the year, and you can certainly find these in our product supply as well.
