How Many Plies of Cashmere Yarn Should My Sweater Have?

When choosing a cashmere sweater, it is important to pay attention to the number of plies (layers) from which the sweater is made. A 2-ply sweater is the most common on the European market, and you can wear it all-year-round. 4-ply sweaters are perfect for the cold days in spring and fall, when it's not too windy - you can wear them without a jacket or a coat, as they keep you perfectly warm.

A cashmere sweater for the winter? For the UK, it starts at 6-ply

The more plies are used to produce a sweater, the warmer it is. Six, ten, and twelve-ply cashmere sweaters are ideal for the cold days in the UK, from the end of fall until the beginning of spring, when they perfectly protect against the freezing cold.

You can also find models marked as Duvet in our offering, which is an extremely tender and thin cashmere made to be worn directly on the skin. However, if you want to buy your first piece of cashmere clothing, you should instead choose a classic 2 or 4-ply sweater.

The number of plies also determines the price. The more plies, the more expensive a sweater is.
